1 Wright’s Rant of the Month – Big Problems – Dramatic Solutions

Big Problem (apparently), No Growth in the UK Economy (as evidenced by GDP) – I don’t accept this is a problem worth worrying about therefore; there is no Dramatic Solution necessary.

However, there is a need to adjust to the absence of growth in Gross Domestic Product, the reduction in size of the public sector economy, (which requires a major structural employment adjustment) and a new look at the connection between work and jobs, in terms of managing public expectations.

We should abandon our fixation on the material consumption of ‘fashion’ goods (from cars to clothes) and the ability to purchase certain services (such as increasing amounts of international holiday travel) and focus more on creating more and better housing and better welfare services provided by the private sector.

More on this in the months to come.

Coming to an employer near you in 2012

5a Influencer of the Month – Robert Craven

Robert is one of my favourite business writers and speakers and his latest book, Grow Your Service Firm, has already received promising reviews.

This promotional statement is from his website:

Are you an ‘Independent Professional’ or ‘Professional Service Firm’?

You're a management consultant, trainer, coach, creative, financial or employment professional, homeopath, architect, accountant, solicitor, surveyor. The list goes on – you sell a service and it is probably a ‘professional service’… you sell some kind of expertise.

Do you wonder why you don’t get the results you feel you deserve?

Are you great at performing your skill but aren’t so sure about how to get more/better clients?

If so, then this book is for you.

Grow Your Service Firm shows you a simple way to improve your sales and profits; secure a reliable ‘sales funnel’ of leads coming to you rather than you seeking them out. This system avoids the miseries of futile cold calls and gets targets to start coming to you.

Read The Free Chapter

I’ve read the chapter and have now ordered the whole book! – Robert has never let me down.

5b Influencer of the Month – David Winch

David S V (Selling Value) Winch is an associate of Right Angle Consultants, a contributing author to Breaking the Barriers to Business Growth and a guy who has taught me and others a great deal in the last 5 years.

David is a specialist in writing about and training people in the skills of developing Value Conversations and Selling Value.

This month’s other featured influencer, Robert Craven, in his book the Professional Firm, wrote about the expert, the specialist and what they should do to capitalise their potential value. Robert’s book is also in tune with the teachings of Daniel Priestley and his KPI – Key Person of Influence – approach to achieving your objectives.

David SV Winch is even more of a specialist, taking some of his ideas from John Niland, who coached us both back in the mid years of the last decade and then developing the concept into something of an art form that allows a specialist to earn what they are worth by focussing on the value they provide to their customer

Like John Niland, David Winch understands the importance of context to every customer / supplier situation. The value given always depends on the specific context of time and place linked to the skills and abilities of the supplier and the position of the customer.

Once the customer understands the value to them of what the supplier can deliver, acceptance of the price – performance – outcome proposition is much easier to agree and becomes a win / win scenario.

For my Millionaire Mentoring clients I adopt David’s approach during discussions with a prospective customer illustrating that if the profit improvement we can together create exceeds £30,000 more than they could create on their own, they should not begrudge paying me 33% of this “extra” amount they have earned and keep an additional £20,000.

For more information about David Winch go to www.davidwinch.co.uk or buy and read his chapter in BTBTBG.
